January again

January again, with its cold days to spend inside home on... creating!

After the caos during Christmas time, the peace of the first month of the year invite us to gather our energies, in the winter hearth, and to transform them in ideas lasting for all the new year long.

We have to pay attention and don't break those new-born energies, with the purpose to carry out something special that Etsy people may appreciate and – why not? - buy.

So, take a peek on what the new year offers to us!

Colours: looking at the pictures in Front Page, we guess that pastel colours, green and brown from woodlands, icy white, gold, silver and warm colours are the main trend.

PassionArte

Well, let begin from warm colours: January's birthstone is garnet, a deep red stone that remembers, also in its name, the seeds of the pomegranate, even if garnet actually presents a large number of colours. Are you inspired by garnet? Wonderful, be prepared to partecipate at Garnet Gift Guide

Natural motifs: flowers, leaves, trees, branches, rustic items. Woods still have a special charm, so, surfing Etsy shops, we can see a tree here, a moss bed there, a frosted lace trapped in a jewelry. Yep, Nature is a "evergreen" ;)

Home: brrr! From cold woods and fields, let's run to our warm nest. Home, to organize and decorate. First, we need a calendar. Even if January is arriving, we are not late to make calendars to display or use, naturally with a large amount of room to take note. What about wrapping ourselves in a warm plaid or in a big soft scarf, with a hot spiced chocolate, in our hands, ready to begin a new creative year? Fabrics and other warm and soft materials remain at the forefront of the style for this wintertime.

Weddings: wedding ideas are always welcome, good for all year long or for the present season. S. Valentine is arriving... but this is a different story.

Vacations: before diving into those creative dreams that take life under the snow coat, remember that this is also vacation-time for those lucky people who can fly towards summer lands in the southern hemisphere.

While Sun and Moon move in circle under the cold eye of Capricorn and Aquarius constellations, we get ready to warm up our hands and turn on ideas.

Happy New Year! ;)

JewelryLois

Motivi naturali: fiori, foglie, alberi, legni, atmosfere rustiche.

Buon Anno! ;)

Interview: going to know... Atelierpompadour

  1. What’s the name of your business, what do create and sell?

Atelier Pompadour is the name of my shop. I create with felt and fabric home wares and accessories..

2. What are your inspirations in your art and life?

I find a lot of inspiration on the web (artist website, creative blogs and people..) but also in everyday life, everything can suggest me something. A lot of times during the day I watch something and ask myself “can this (thing, scene of life, advertising, picture, drawing………)be turned in a work of mine?”

3. Do you listen to music while you create? If so, what?

I prefer to keep the TV turned on without looking and following the program .. I prefer a background noise that does not distract me.

4. What is your studio or work space like?

My studio work is in my attic ..I also love to decorate it following my inspiration of the moment… but sometimes felt, fabric and everything else I use can be can be spread evenly around my whole home…I adore all pictures of crafting space I see on the web, perfectly tidy but I really enable do this!!

5. What 3 things can’t you live without?

  1. My cat Titina first place together with chocolate

  2. Recently...my sewing machine

  3. Internet

  3. internet

6. What is the best creative advice you have been given?

I like to reinvent things, observe change them if necessary and used as another use other than usual.

7. What’s new? Any products or projects you’d like to share?

I have a million projects in my mind and in my drawers, but I'm so slow that I can achieve a small part

The Search for the perfect Background

After days of grey skies and rain, the sun is finally shining again. Perfect! We take our camera, put the first item on a table and... we realize that something is lacking. Thus begins our search for that “special something” that will make our creations unique and stand out amongst others in the large ocean of Etsy.
Without a doubt light is important and natural light is obviously the best choice, but that is not enough. We need backgrounds that distinguish our items, preferably clear, with some touches of colour that are not too strong. Thus begins a strange treasure hunt thoughout the house! What can we use? Everything! There are no limits to our imagination or creativity, all the time, keeping in mind good taste.

Let’s take a look around:

Kitchen: elegant or whimsical cups full of colours, a damask table cloth, cushions on the chairs, the marble countertop, wooden shelves with a faux ivy branch dripping down the side, a white plate, the coffee-pot and granny's teapot.

Bathroom: a wet soap full of bubbles, a soft towel, natural and synthetic sponges.
Bedroom: a flowered blanket, the hanger inside the wardrobe, that beautiful velvet scarf, the lamp on the bedside table.

Living room: crystal glasses, a ceramic bowl, flowers in a vase, a doily, curtains.

And then: seasonal wrapping paper, decoupage sheets, an open book, a carpet of fake moss or grass, real or faux flower petals, shells, pebbles, a forgotten guitar in the corner, a branch, pine cones, fresh fruit, coloured sand, a child's drawing, buttons, raffia, semiprecious stones, a stuffed animal, a Chinese lantern, a watercolour picture, a decorated box, the household pet.
Now all that remains is to place these treasuries on a well lit table and then position or hang our works near it.
The game is over, but perhaps it may be that we haven’t found anything suitable to use to our satisfaction. So, a walk to a flea market, along the beach or in the woods might resolve the problem. If we haven't got such places near home, don't panic! A supermarket or a department store will be perfect to find boxes of faux petals, jars of sand, bags of pebbles, or chipped cups.

Interview: going to know... UVball

1. What’s the name of your business, what do create and sell?

My alter ego/creative lab is La Matassa Ultravioletta – Uvball; here I spin my own yarns and knit my garments. Actually I love handling natural fibres from dyeing to carding, then spinning and knitting, and I sell both finished accessories and yarns.

2. What are your inspirations in your art and life?

My inspirations are many, wouldn’t be able to list them, because sometimes they come from nature, from the sea near home, the trees; sometimes they’re sensations emerging when I work, or from fibres themselves, sometimes they come from my town, from things I see walking around, from a good book I read o r my family… It often works like this: I see something, emotions rise, I start handling fibres and yarns.

3. Do you listen to music while you create? If so, what?
No, di solito mi piace stare in silenzio mentre creo

No, I usually prefer silence when I create.

4. What is your studio or work space like?

Actually it’s a corner in the living room of my tiny home, where I stock all my stuff, that easily bumps out and ends onto my PC station, on the sofa, on the table…

5. What 3 things can’t you live without?

Handling wool and wrapping myself with that at first chills.
At least one cup of quality tea in the day.
Books, and wandering inside the stories I read.

6. What is the best creative advice you have been given?

Being patient, learning to trust on my intuition and not being discouraged if the first attempt doesn’t resemble my idea, also because that doesn’t mean I made a qualtity item, this ‘s the awesome character of handmade crafts!

7. What’s new? Any products or projects you’d like to share?

My last creative skills are endeavoured in dyeing, I still have a lot to learn about that; though I’ve already a few lovely yarn for sale.

Be trendy!

Before starting to create something, don't forget to take a look at the trends of the moment on Etsy.
This is the time of the year in which people start to think at Christmas gifts, and so don't miss the opportunity to create something suitable for this.
We are in autumn, soon we will be in winter, and the nature can inspire our creations.
First of all take a look at the forest and at the woodland : every shades of green is wonderful and also everything you can find in this period like holly, branches, pine and acorns.
Don't forget the little forest dwellers like squirrels, deers and birds.

In this period many of us begin to see the first snowflakes: the colors related with snow and ice are aqua, white and crystal clear. Another great color inspired by nature is plum.
During the Christmas holidays will be nice to wear something elegant in black, white or red, and sequined clothing and accessories for glittering nights.
For our houses are perfect the vintage decors, romantic and shabby chic.

Another trendy theme is the eco-friendly life.
Don't forget December's birthstone: turquoise (don't think that turquoise is a summery color: turquoise with grey or black are perfect colors combination).
What are you waiting for? It's time to start to create something trendy!

Cosa state aspettando? E' tempo di creare qualcosa alla moda!

Plan ahead for this busy December

Are you ready to face this busy and demanding December? Your shop has the necessary stocks for sales in coming?
-The important thing is to plan everything you need for your shop: making the stock of supplies, to have more possible objects in your shop, if necessary, buy the double of what you buy usually,
if you're afraid of forgetting something, or confusion, write everything on a notepad!
-Create multiple of each item, if possible, it saves time, allows you to relist an item without remaking pictures and description, and re-create an object already done so, the process is faster.
-Keep it clean and tidy your creative space, keep the tools you need at your fingertips.
-When there are slow days, do not waste time, use it to make new pictures, new stock and upgrade your shop; Keep in mind people are looking and preparing to buy, and they will probably come back all at once. Don’t let your customers catch you off guard, be prepared for business well into January.
-Use all your free time to do more, these are the most productive months, you'll have more time for yourself after the winter season.
-Do not list items that you have not already done so, if possible, it is best to list items ready to ship.
If you accept custom orders, write in your shop announcement the amount of time to do it, and also communicate to your customers, they will be pleased to know when their item is ready.
-Keep up with the shipment. Send up to 4 times a week if you must, your customers are more compelled to buy, if they need it for the holidays, and you have a fast service.
-if you have many sales in one day, print out your orders, it gives you the view of every order and address ready for shipment, so you can not go wrong item or address.
Although the holidays may seem like a lot of work and mess, but this is the season that each Etsy seller, wait!
We will all have time to rest after the winter season!
Happy holidays!

Buone Vacanze !!
